ANTITRUST AND CONSUMER DEFENSE LAW

Soley, Saborío & Asociados has added Antitrust and Consumer Defense Law to its portfolio of services.

The legal team practicing in the field of Antitrust and Consumer Defense Law at Soley, Saborío & Asociados has developed vast experience and specialization in that area. They represent important economic agents working in the telecommunications, hydrocarbons, television, beverage, food, industrial gas and electronics markets and provide advisory services in the application and interpretation of Competition Law and motions before Competition authorities.

In addition to advising our clients in the application of antitrust standards and in preventing and sanctioning anti-competition practices that restrict free competition; we participate professionally in representing clients before the Competition Agency (referred to as COPROCOM, Commission for the Promotion of Competition) and competent jurisdictional authorities.

Further services include:

  • Analysis and application of Antitrust standards regarding concentrations, company mergers and acquisitions, including pertinent approval procedures before the Competition Agency.
  • Analysis and application of Antitrust standards to control acquisitions or any other action by which companies, trusts, assets, capitals, client portfolios, etc. are concentrated.
  • Diagnostics on compliance with Antitrust standards, both for actively operating economic agents and for legal or commercial actions that pertain to Competition analysis.

We are currently providing services in Costa Rica in the following new areas of Competition law:

  • The insurance market
  • The telecommunications market.

Both of these markets were recently opened to competition after being state monopolies for decades – there is dense regulations and a large number of legal procedures that must be planned and executed in conformity with the principles and actions of Competition Law -- our specialty.
